Flow Yoga

A flow yoga class offers different standing, seated, and lying postures (asanas). Flow yoga is about unblocking energy, whether the block is physical, mental or emotional. Asana and breathing practice combine in flow yoga to break through the blocks and open your body and heart to the present moment, to yourself, and to the universe. Flow classes can be for the beginner, intermediate or advanced practitioner, depending on the students and the teacher. The difficulty of the class depends on the students attending the class that day. All teachers at Kula assess the members of each class and teach the class that is appropriate at the time.

Flow classes generally begin on the floor with warm-up poses, progress to standing poses (such as down dog and forward fold), then move to warrior poses, triangle, and perhaps balancing poses, and then end back to the floor where they eventually culminate in corpse pose, or savasanah.

Flow yoga can refer to a transitional state between static and more movement-oriented yoga, as in kundalini yoga, or it can refer to more of a movement of mind. Some yoga teachers like to think of flow as a sequence of specific postures or asanas as their flow yoga; others like to think of flow as meditative. So as you see, a lot of  what you’ll get in a flow class will depend on the teacher you have. Give it a try with each teacher and seek out the class that best fits your body, mind and spirit! Enjoy the ride!
