Viniyoga

The teacher of Viniyoga tailors a program for the individual, carefully choreographing sequences of yoga poses, linked with breathing, that will enhance the well-being of that particular person. In addition to asanas meditation, reflection, pranayama, mantras, and the study of the chakras combine to help the individual find peace, joy, health and comfort within oneself. Sue Plumley has practiced yoga on and off for over 30 years. She’s certified in Hatha Yoga, Yin Yoga, Kids Yoga and Kundalini Yoga. Sue teaches meditation, chakra studies, and therapeutic yoga. The components of viniyoga include, but are not limited to:

· Asanas (yoga poses or postures) are intended primarily to restore and maintain your well-being, improve the body's flexibility and vitality, and promote the ability to remain in seated meditation for extended periods. Asanas massage muscles, glands, and various body systems; they make you more flexible, and they make you feel balanced and vital. Your body feels healthy, good.

 

· Pranayama is the lengthening of the prana or breath. The word is composed of two Sanskrit words, Prāna, life force, or vital energy, particularly the breath, and āyāma, to suspend or restrain. It is often translated as control of the life force, or more specifically as "breath control". You can learn to control your breath so that you sleep or so that you build up energy for a busy day.

 

· Meditation is a mental discipline by which you attempt to get beyond the reflexive, "thinking" or monkey mind into a deeper state of relaxation or awareness. Clear your mind, feel rested and relaxed, forget about stress.

 

· Staying in the present moment is a wonderful way to live life. What is past is past; what is in the future is unsure. Living here and now is precious and wonderful. Learn to live in the present, be grateful for what you have and enjoy every moment of your life. At the end of the day, you have many wonderful memories that are calm, loving and restful.

 

· Chakras spin within your core (shushumna) to help energize you. In addition, each chakra relates to a specific gland in your body.  Learn how to activate your chakras, gather energy from the earth and from the heavens. Use these energies to heal and invigorate yourself and your body.

 

· Perception and action. How do you perceive a situation? Does your reaction actually bring misfortune to yourself or others? Some ways we have of perceiving can be so deeply rooted in us because of habit, that we have unconscious responses. The mind becomes more and more dependent on habits  until we accept the actions of yesterday as the norms of today, thus obscuring clarity. “I should…” “I must…” “I want…” “I fear…” Yoga attempts to speak the truth, listen to the truth, be the truth.
